About the Speakers


Ada Stenekamp

Ada has been in IT for 37 years and has done almost every possible job in the industry on various projects. Her greatest passion is data and its ability to enhance a company's marketing and growth potential. She understand the inter-relationship between the application, it's data and the business processes on the success of a project and has the ability to bring them all together. She is also a strong believer in the power of team work and believes in giving direction to a team, based on solid planning and fostering a healthy culture of sharing.

Recently her interest in Big Data inspired her to give a presentation on “Big Data and the impact on Business Analysts” at the BASSA conference in Johannesburg. She did intensive research on the topic and she is convinced that this is one of the biggest growth areas for the future of companies.

Ada is certified as an OMG-Certified UML Professional (OCUP®) as well as a Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP®).

She is currently enrolled for the 'Data Scientist' certification, a Coursera course, presented by the Hopkins University, in order to further her knowledge of data and its applications in businesses.


Lardus Brooks

Lardus is a IIBA Certified Business Analyst Professional and in his current role as Business Analysis Manager he manages a number of business analysts within his organisation and also fulfills the role of lead and senior business analyst.

Lardus is passionate about the discipline of business analysis and continually betters himself through studies, certification and online research and development. He is currently pursuing TOGAF certification. Lardus has a BCom Information Technology degree and started his career as a software developer but later migrated to business analysis which enables him to function efficiently within business and technical environments.

As a business analyst he has been involved with projects using various project management methodologies including waterfall, agile, RAD etc. and understands the role and structure around business analysis within these different environments. He has strong elicitation, planning, analytical and communication skills paired with 17 years’ experience within the IT industry of which 8 years have been in the banking and financial sector.



About the Host

Giovanni Focaraccio

Giovanni Focaraccio is passionate about analysis and design and regards these skills to be intertwined and broadly applicable to problem solving and innovation regardless of one’s job title or position in the value chain.

His working experience spans 16 years and have included roles as Trainer, Project Manager, Business Systems Analyst and Founder CEO however his focus remains on the discipline of analysis and design. His industry exposure has primarily been in banking, property and telecommunications.

Giovanni is a proponent of life-long learning and has obtained various certifications throughout his career including Certified Technical Trainer, ITIL, PMI PMP, IIBA CBAP and Certified Scrum Product Owner. He obtained a B.Com Informatics degree from UNISA and an executive MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. His dissertation dealt with competitive strategy for multi-sided digital platform businesses.

Business Intelligence has become a key enabler for the business leaders to solidify continuous improvement within their organisations.

There has been a strong shift in focus and demand from OLTP to OLAP systems as the demand for analytics has increased.

An organizations BI capabilities has become a major source of informing business decisions to enable a competitive advantage over competitors in servicing clients and improving operational efficiencies.

Due to the increase in demand for BI Projects it has become imperative for BAs to augment their BA skills to ensure that they are able to provide the necessary value and expertise within a BI Context.

The talk will focus on what skills are typically required from a BI BA with specific references to recent Case Studies in which the presenter has been personally involved.
