About the Speaker

Giovanni Focaraccio

Gio has 15 years experience with business information systems most of which was spent in pure project mode within the banking and telecommunications sectors. His responsibilities have included training, project management, system analysis, business analysis, solution design and startup co-founder.

Since 2000 Gio has written over 20 certification exams including Prince2, PMP, ITIL, BPM and in 2013, CBAP. The last 2 years have been dedicated in pursuit of an MBA through GIBS. His research paper is in the domain of strategy with a focus on the startup and early growth of multi-sided platform ecosystems.

Gio has been married for 10 years and in his spare time enjoys riding mountain bike trails with his 4 year old son and cooing at his 10 month old twin girls.




Business Intelligence has become a key enabler for the business leaders to solidify continuous improvement within their organisations.

There has been a strong shift in focus and demand from OLTP to OLAP systems as the demand for analytics has increased.

An organizations BI capabilities has become a major source of informing business decisions to enable a competitive advantage over competitors in servicing clients and improving operational efficiencies.

Due to the increase in demand for BI Projects it has become imperative for BAs to augment their BA skills to ensure that they are able to provide the necessary value and expertise within a BI Context.

The talk will focus on what skills are typically required from a BI BA with specific references to recent Case Studies in which the presenter has been personally involved.
